Regarding CNN correspondent Nick Payton Walsh and several other foreign journalists, the FSB has opened criminal cases over reports from the Sudzhansky District of the Kursk Region, which is occupied by Ukrainian forces. The journalists are being accused of illegally crossing the border as a group acting in prior conspiracy (Part 3, Article 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). On 11 October 2024, the Leninsky District Court of Kursk issued a warrant for the arrest of CNN journalist Nick Paton Walsh in absentia.
