The Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs has designated the independent project “ChestnOK”, created by Belarusian journalists Aliaksandr Ivulin and Yaraslau Pisaranka, as an “extremist formation”. The ministry’s decision lists a number of YouTube and Telegram channels, affiliated social media pages, as well as the personal accounts of Yaroslav Pisarenko and Aliaksandr Ivulin. The journalists’ names have been added to the register of organisations, formations and individual entrepreneurs involved in extremist activity. Under Belarusian law, any interaction with resources recognised as extremist formations can lead to criminal prosecution and imprisonment for up to 10 years for participation in, or assistance to, an extremist formation (Articles 361-1 and 361-4 of the Criminal Code).
