Journalist Elena Nalimova and her underage daughter were summoned by police and forced to provide written statements as part of a pre-investigation check under Russia’s laws on “LGBT propaganda” (Articles 20.3.3 and 6.21 of the Administrative Code) and “failure to fulfil parental duties” (Article 156 of the Criminal Code). This is the second investigation targeting Nalimova; the first, in May, was launched after a complaint from the head of a local veterans’ group, partly in response to her social media post about Halloween. Nalimova reports on various issues, including protests against the destruction of a city park to build a school named after “heroes of the special military operation” in Ukraine.
