The appeal trial of the Abzas Media journalists, who were sentenced to long-term imprisonment, is ongoing at the Baku Court of Appeal. During the August 12 hearing, female journalists were subjected to violence by Penitentiary Service officers. Journalists Sevinj Vagifgizi, Nargiz Absalamova, and Elnara Gasımova protested the conduct of the hearing. They objected to being placed in a glass cage and denied the right to sit with their lawyers. Following their objections, the judge postponed the hearing. As the journalists were being escorted out of the courtroom, prison officers used force against them.
