A criminal case has been opened against Ilya Varlamov on charges of spreading false information about the military motivated by hatred (Clause “d” of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). The prosecutor’s office has approved the indictment. In addition, Varlamov will be tried in absentia on charges of failing to comply with the obligations of a so-called “foreign agent” (Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code). He had previously been placed on a wanted list and arrested in absentia. The Ministry of Justice added Varlamov to the register of “foreign agents” in March 2023.
