The imprisoned journalists of AbzasMedia have protested their transfer to the “Umbaku” prison located outside Baku. Journalists Ulvi Hasanli, Mohammad Kekalov, Hafiz Babali, and Farid Mehralizade were transferred from the Baku Pretrial Detention Center to the Umbaku prison on June 26. Their relatives stated that in Umbaku, in-person visits are not allowed and meetings can only take place through a glass barrier, a practice that contradicts the law. Journalist Ulvi Hasanli has told his family that if they are held in Umbaku, he will begin a hunger strike in protest. Their lawyer, Zibeyda Sadigova, has also stated that the transfer to Umbaku was illegal.
