On April 1, 2025, in the village of Zemlyanichnoye in the Belogorsk district of Crimea, Russian security forces conducted a search of the home of the parents of Gulsum Khalilova, a journalist for the Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR, who has been living and working in Kyiv for many years. During the search, they also checked the information on their phones. After the search, the journalist’s father was hospitalized due to a deterioration in his health, which was triggered by the stress of the search. The official reason given for the search was to inspect the premises for weapons or other items prohibited from circulation. The journalist believes the search is connected to her professional activities, as her parents have never had any problems with the law.
