Tajik authorities have seized the property of a recently detained group of prominent political figures, as well as their close relatives. Informed sources told Radio Ozodi on 30 July that investigators seized the bank accounts of former Democratic Party chairman and former MP Saidjafar Usmonzod, former Tajik Supreme Soviet chairman Akbarsho Iskandarov, former Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, journalist and Democratic Party deputy chairman Ahmadshokh Komilzoda, Social Democratic Party of Tajikistan deputy chairman Shokirjon Khakimov and their close relatives. A ban has been imposed on the sale or lease of residential houses and flats, dachas, cars and other movable and immovable property to members of their families. Relatives of the detainees also complain of pressure on their families. One of them said that on the basis of a letter from the official bodies he was fired from his job.
