On May 14, the Alamudun District Court of the Chuy Region sentenced Oljobai Shakir to five years in prison on the case of calling for mass riots. Shakir was detained in August 2023 and has been in custody since then. He is accused of «calling for active disobedience to the lawful demands of the authorities and mass riots». On the eve of his arrest, he spoke out against the authorities’ initiative to transfer to Uzbekistan four boarding houses located in the resort area of Lake Issyk-Kul.
