Maksat Tazhibek uulu was detained and arrested on January 16 along with other journalists of Temirov Live team. His flat was searched. On January 17, the cameraman was taken to a temporary detention centre and then to a pre-trial detention centre. Maksat was one of the founders of the investigative project Temirov Live together with journalist Bolot Temirov, who was expelled from the country by the Kyrgyz authorities for his professional activities. Like other members of the Temirov Live team, he is charged under Article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic (calls for mass riots). The criminal article provides for up to 8 years in prison. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the reason for the case was one of the materials of Temirov Live in December 2023, where experts «allegedly found» signs of calls for mass riots. Temirov Live journalists specialise in investigations of corruption in the highest echelons of power.
