Ayan Kalmurat told the Adil Soz Foundation that on January 5, when journalists were covering the riots in Almaty, he and cameraman Sanat Nurbek were beaten about 5-6 times: «He had a camera and I had a microphone. We were wearing blue vests, so they immediately recognised us and tried to prevent us from filming».
