In August 2023, security forces officers interrogated the father of journalist and environmental activist Yulia Faizrakhmanova, taking a non-disclosure undertaking from him. In early September, security forces officers called several of her former associates from among Kazan environmental activists «for a conversation». Later, a criminal case was opened against the journalist for «calls for terrorism» and searches were carried out in her apartment and at her parents’. Faizrakhmanova herself is located outside of Russia.
