On 17th September, the Asian Games began in Ashgabat, and journalists from various countries arrived to cover them. According to Radio Azatlyk, foreign journalists were under constant surveillance. One also said that every journalist was attached two "guides" who didn't hide that they were expected to report three times a day to supervisors from Turkmenistan's Ministry for National Security.
